Senior Citizens Self-Defense ideas

Unfortunately predators often go after senior citizens. Crooks are searching for easy targets, they understand they can take advantage of senior. Therefore it is important seniors take notice of helpful safety guidelines.

Walk Away From Trouble
For starters the simplest safety tip a senior can implement is to always display confidence. Since criminals are searching for victims who come across as scared, they are far less likely to be assaulted than a person who seem self assured and alert. Seniors who move about with direction, and hold their head up rather than shuffling feet and staring off into space will not be attractive as targets. Try to, go out with groups, and try to keep within places where large crowds are present. Criminals are less likely strike if there are people around.

While shopping, remember to pick a parking spot as close to your destination as possible, and always stop in a well-lit place. Muggers operate in dark areas without people around so they won't have witnesses. Females should guard their purses, but it isn’t necessarily a good idea to hang the strap over your neck. Purse snatching is quite common, and attackers may knock you down to get what they want. When done shopping, make sure your hands aren't overly full with packages, and keep keys in hand upon approaching your car so you are ready to get in and drive off immediately.

Avoid A Confrontation

I have a question: say you were   endangered in a public place, how would you react?

Your reaction can be the difference between prevents you from being the victim or avoiding a potentially dangerous attack.

The first way to put off an assailant from continuing an assault is to seek assisitance. You’ll have safety in groups, and a mugger won't want witnesses who will describe them to law enforcement officers. If  people are near by, call for assistance, and shout for bystanders to call 911.

Just yelling for assistance isn’t always enough. So it is good idea to carry something that gets a person’s attention. A good recommendation for seniors usually is to get a a personal alarm. This is a self defense device which emits an extremely siren that quickly attracts help. It get the attention of anyone in the vicinity, and alerts onlookers of the need for assistance.

Worst Case Scenarios

Sometimes, regardless of our best efforts, an assailant will set their mind on an attack and nothing can prevent it.

A senior safety  self defense class will teach a few simple, but highly effective techniques that are designed to put an assailant off guard providing you a moment to get away safely. You can enroll in a personal defense courses, including courses in defense using things most people commonly carry. Some elderly people have even been taught how to turn their walking canes into very powerful weapons.

Senior citizens might also decide to carry a non lethal self defense weapon., such as: Home Security Alarms Surveillance Cameras

You must do everything you can to stay away from danger and prevent an attack, but it is also necessary to acknowledge that if a predator has a gun, knife or any lethal weapon, Your best option is to cooperate. There may be a loss of money or personal stuff, but why bother risking life and limb.
